(Also referred to as, “Medigap”) Policies available from private companies, but federally mandated for individuals that provide a predetermined amount of coverage for expenses that Medicare may not cover (i.e., co-insurance, co-payments, deductibles).

Offered by private companies that contract with Medicare to provide Part A and Part B benefits. Types are Health Maintenance Organizations (HMO), Preferred Provider Organizations (PPO), Private Fee-For-Service Plans, Special Needs plans, and Medicare Medical Savings Account plans. Availability varies by county. Medicare services are covered through the plan, not paid for under original Medicare. Certain plans can offer Prescription Drug coverage.

(Prescription Drug Plan) Assists individuals in covering some costs of prescription drugs. Available through private companies. Drugs covered may vary and change annually.

(Also known as “Burial Insurance”) Covers expenses that family/loved ones would face at the time of an individual’s death, which may include funeral services, medical bills, etc. These typically have a lower face value than Life Insurance, ranging from $5,000-$25,000.

This type of policy includes a broad range of services in addition to long-term care facilities, such as assisted living and home health care allowing you to choose the care that best fits your needs.

Fixed annuities: Helps individuals reach a long term goal, provides a guaranteed return in a set period of time, a single payment, guaranteed rate of interest accumulating tax-deferred. Immediate Annuities: Requires an initial lump sum payment; receive monthly checks for life. Period certain options (10 years, 20 years) available.
